The Training Division is a division of the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council. The Council's mission is to facilitate and promote the highest standard of practice among professionals responsible for the representation of indigent persons charged with crimes in Georgia. The Training Division has primary responsibility for designing and implementing training programs for Public Defenders. The Training Division also has a recruitment program designed to provide support to our Circuit Public Defenders by helping to identify and attract committed public defenders to offices throughout the State.

Notice

Per our agreement with the bar, public defenders are granted an extension in order to complete both the Fundamentals of Public Defense and Trial Skills training programs after their hire date. In order to receive the extension I must submit a list with their names to the bar.

If there is anyone in your office that has received a letter or an email from the bar stating that they must complete the TILPP program by December and they have not yet done so, please send me their name and bar number as soon as possible.
